Twice a year, on Halloween and in the spring, window washers dress up as superheroes at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.

“It’s nice when you rappel down and see the kids excited,” said Mark Errico, a window washer for Allegheny Window Cleaning Inc. “It kind of takes their minds off what they’re really here for.”

On Thursday, Errico — dressed as Captain America — and three of his coworkers dressed as Batman, Spider-Man, and Superman, thrilled patients, their families, hospital staff and passersby yet again.

“They come running up to the glass. They’re just excited to see you,” said Errico, 30, of Plum. “Normally people just shut the blinds, they don’t want to be bothered with you. Now, whenever you put on a costume, they’re excited to see you.”
