Ronald McDonald House opens area’s fourth family room at St. Louis Children’s Hospital – STLtoday.com
Ronald McDonald House Charities of St. Louis will open its fourth area respite room for families in the new tower of St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
The new tower, which adds more private patient rooms, is in the final stages of construction and expected to open late summer or early fall.
St. Louis Children’s Hospital currently has a Ronald McDonald Family Room located on the fifth floor near the Newborn Intensive Care Unit. When the additional family room opens, the fifth floor room will be dedicated to families with babies in the NICU.
The area’s two other family rooms are located in Mercy Children’s Hospital and Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital. All three locations serve about 12,000 families a year.
The rooms are open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily and staffed with more than 300 volunteers. They provide patient families access to laundry facilities, showers, a small kitchen, free snacks, television, Internet and quiet areas.
“We are excited to expand our partnership with St. Louis Children’s Hospital to serve thousands more families every year through an additional Ronald McDonald Family Room,” said Dan Harbaugh, the charity’s president. “The growth is possible because of the incredible support we receive from the St. Louis community and beyond.”
Ronald McDonald House is recruiting volunteers to staff the rooms at St. Louis Children’s. Duties include welcoming and checking in families. To learn more, visit rmhcstl.com/volunteer or contact Family Room Manger Courtney Fischer at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The local charity also operates three Ronald McDonald Houses located near each of the children’s hospitals. The houses provide accommodations at little cost for families of seriously ill children who have traveled to St. Louis for their medical treatment.
