A pediatrician who went to prison in Ohio for killing her mother more than a decade ago was found dead in Manhattan, hanging from a skylight with a knotted bed-sheet tied around her neck, cops said Thursday.
Malar Balasubramanian, 40, was found by her roommate around 5 p.m. Wednesday on West 144th St. in Hamilton Heights, police said. EMS rushed her to Harlem Hospital, but she couldn’t be saved.
Police found no signs of foul play and believe her death was a suicide. Investigators found suicide notes and she sent a text to her brother before she died, police sources said.
Balasubramanian was accused of poisoning Saroja Balasubramanian, 53, in her home in the city of Blue Ash in July 2005. She hid the body in the back seat of a car and left it in a parking lot.
She pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and was sentenced to 10 years in jail. She was granted early release in 2012 and ordered to remain under the treatment of a psychiatrist.
