The former One Direction star, who recently welcomed his own son, Bear, with Cheryl, headed to Boston Children’s Hospital on Monday to visit some young patients. While there, he headed to the Seacrest Studios at Boston Children’s Hospital where he sat down for a chat in the state-of-the-art TV and radio station, which broadcasts to all the televisions on the Children’s Hospital Boston main campus.
Dressed very casually in faded jeans, an oversized hoodie, and a baseball cap, Payne, 23, sported headphones and sat behind the microphone as he fielded questions from the kids. They asked about everything from his favorite superhero (Iron Man) to his favorite social media platform (answer: Instagram.) The kids also asked what Payne would be doing if he wasn’t a singer, to which he answered that he’d be building airplanes—like his father does.
“He made all the kiddos so happy and believe me, there were a lot of them,” one attendee told PEOPLE.
While there, Payne filmed a quick video for the hospital’s Instagram page.
“Hi, I’m at the Boston Children’s Hospital and I just want to say thank you for having me. It was lovely to meet you all. Bye!”

While Cheryl and baby Bear didn’t come along for the hospital visit, Payne appeared to be in great spirits and was a complete hit with the children.
“Liam is just as sweet as can be and totally amazing with the kids,” the hospital insider continued. “He’s extremely engaged, gracious and funny.”
