Star Wars fans spot incredible hidden references to the saga in Indiana Jones films – The Sun

THEY’RE popular film sagas with millions of fans worldwide, both created by George Lucas and with Harrison Ford in a lead role.

But Star Wars fans have noticed something else which ties the legendary space epic to the daring antics of the Indiana Jones films.

With a new Star Wars out in December and a return to Indiana Jones scheduled for 2020, fans of the two have clocked some incredible crossovers between the series.

In fact, it turns out that the whip-cracking Indiana Jones series, which kicked off in 1981, features a fair few hidden nods to the 1977 Star Wars film, A New Hope.

In the first Indie film, our hero Harrison Ford takes us through perilous temples in Peru and Egypt, on the hunt for the Lost Ark the film is named after.

But one still from the film reveals that Harrison’s Indy may have stumbled across something even more important – a reference to the far away galaxy where he plays Han Solo.

A screenshot from Raiders of the Lost Ark shared on Reddit reveals a hieroglyph which depicts Star Wars robots C-3PO and R2-D2 – a blatant reference to George Lucas’ other blockbuster.

At the time, Star Wars had only been out for four years, but our first taste of the space opera was already an international hit.

So it makes sense that this wouldn’t be the only brilliant reference to the Star Wars saga hidden away in the same film.

In the opening scene of Raiders, we see Indy making a hasty getaway with the help of a water plane – but look closely at the letters on its side and you’ll notice another sneaky nod to the space epic.

The plane is branded with the letters OB-CPO, but Star Wars fans will know that these are hardly random markings.

OB is short for Star Wars hero Obi-Wan, while CPO is, of course, a reference to C-3PO, the droid from George Lucas’ most famous film saga.

And the crossovers don’t end there, with another clever reference tucked away in the 1984 Indy prequel: Temple of Doom.

In the film’s opening scene, we’re taken to a nightclub in Shanghai, but did you ever notice what the venue was called?

The neon sign outside the bar reads: “Club Obi Wan”, yet another reference to everyone’s favourite Jedi from everyone’s favourite far, far away galaxy.
