Laurence Fishburne got a phone call to come out and make an appearance in Justice League as Daily Planet editor Perry White, but he was too busy washing his hair. He’s said it was a scheduling issue, but there could be another, more juicy reason. According to Fishburne, DC’s kind of blowing it.

While chatting with the L.A. Times, Fishburne confirmed that he won’t be in Justice League, while also expressing his frustration at how DC has been handling its cinematic universe. It’s no secret that DC’s films have largely been critical disasters—even as they’ve managed to make shit-tons of money—and all the behind-the-scenes Batman drama isn’t helping. Fishburne, a comic book fan himself, knows the DCEU apple has fallen far from the MCU tree.

“We’ve been waiting 35 years for these [characters] to show up on the screen. What were they doing over there? Marvel has been kicking their ass. This is the comic-book geek in me, who has a collection of comic books. I’ve been waiting to see these people on-screen forever.”

Of course, Fishburne immediately followed it up by praising Justice League director Zack Snyder, who he worked with on Man of Steel and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Though I don’t know how sincere he’s being since Fishburne thought the best moments to praise were Jesse Eisenberg and the Martha scene. What.

“The whole thing with Martha Kent and Martha Wayne? I don’t know, man, I must be sentimental but that’s some heartwarming [stuff] to me,” Fishburne said.

Fishburne and Keanu Reeves are appearing together in John Wick 2, which has received heavy acclaim ahead of its release. Of course, that’s leading tons of people to ask whether there will be another Matrix movie. Reeves replied in his typical manner, calling it an “awesome” idea, but no. Dear God no. Save me the pain.
