‘Captain Marvel’ film finds its directors, the duo behind ‘Half Nelson’ – Chicago Tribune
Much as Warner Bros. and DC sought a top female director to guide one of its main superheroines, Marvel has studiously sought one for its Captain Marvel movie.
Patty Jenkins’s “Wonder Woman” opens in June, giving WB/DC the first solo superheroine film within their connected comic-book universe. And now Marvel is announcing that Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck will direct “Captain Marvel,” which stars Oscar winner Brie Larson in the title role, Variety reports. Boden will be the first female director of a Marvel Cinematic Universe feature when “Captain Marvel” is released in March 2019.
Boden and Fleck have worked with top superhero-franchise actors before, casting Ryan Reynolds of “Deadpool” and Ben Mendelsohn of “Rogue One” and “The Dark Knight Rises” in their 2015 film “Mississippi Grind.”
The filmmaking pair also wrote and directed 2008′s acclaimed “Sugar,” which won an AFI Award for movie of the year; and Boden co-wrote Fleck’s “Half Nelson,” for which Ryan Gosling received an Oscar nomination.
