British Toys R Us shops hit by supplier fears – Telegraph.co.uk
Toy suppliers have stopped deliveries to the UK arm of Toys R Us over fears the financial struggles of its American parent company could leave them out of pocket.
Despite Toys R Us insisting last month that it was “business as usual” for its UK operation, The Sunday Telegraph has learnt that that a clutch of suppliers have cut off the chain ahead of the crucial Christmas trading season.
Sources said Worlds Apart, which makes doll’s houses and Disney Frozen bedroom furniture under licence, has stopped supplying Toys R US because it cannot get credit insurance.
Meanwhile, Tutti Bambini, which makes high-end nursery furniture, has also pulled its supply citing financial concerns about the company. Toys R Us, which has 110 shops and employees 2,500 staff in the UK, currently lists both companies’ products as “unavailable” despite them being available at rivals Mothercare, Smyths and Argos.
A Toys R Us spokesman confirmed that Worlds Apart and Tutti Bambini were “part of a small number of vendors currently not supplying us”.
